What have I learned, and is it what I expected? Well, amazingly enough, through this experience I realize that I have changed quite a bit. The first 2 years were very difficult because I was so emotional and took things too personal. With the loving support of my husband and a lot of prayer I have realized that these 2 people I am caring for are not going to change, I had to change how I dealt with it all. Unlike raising children, which you hope you can influence and help to become who they are suppose to be, care taking is dealing with who they have already become. Plus, the fact that growing up with these people is quite different than the current situation. I think what all caregivers face is dealing with the responsibility of making the decisions for 2 grown adults that is in their best interest even though they may rebel. There are many character flaws I have discovered in myself and have tried to work on these throughout this experience. A lack of appreciation is hard to deal with as well. You begin to feel devalued as you are dealing with constant disrespect and stubbornness. The way that works for me is I have to disassociate myself with the task at hand. The only way I can cope with the situation is to look at it as a business arrangement. This takes the emotion out of it because instead of family members they become...... clients. Of course I still love them and want the best care for them but it takes it to a controllable level for me. Despite what happens and what they may think I can view this as a valued service I am providing for them. Even though they don't appreciate it I know it is of value. So, I have created a business called "Senior Resource" in which I am the manager. I have associates that help and support but I manage the care and delegate as needed. We do require "time off" occasionally and that is where the "associates" come in.

I have called other business's in the area to see what they charge to provide this service so I know what the cost is. I really do understand how doing this impacts a family and their lives. It is overwhelming at times to think of this responsibility and how it affects you on a daily basis. There are not the rewards like parenting brings, but just knowing in your heart that you are providing the best care that they could get right now... just has to be enough. I know there will come a time when I will not be able to provide this service for them anymore. It will be difficult to make that decision, but I see it approaching all too soon. I hope at that moment I can be assured of the work I have done has been in their best interest.

I became a caregiver after my mother passed away. Before she died I promised her I would take good care of her husband & oldest son. I really feel I have honored that promise because I know that is what she would want me to do. That has carried me through this experience. She was a woman who had the patience of a saint and the tolerance of a warrior in my eyes. I see that now more than ever as this last year has been especially difficult. I feel her spirit at times when it seems I can't go on. She is whispering, "You can do it, its the right thing to do"....A promise is important to me. I hope and pray I have and can continue honoring this promise the best way possible.

A Promise Kept

A promise can be made, what kind of person keeps them?
“I will be there”, says one, “I will do it”, says another.

“I will”, says the daughter” as her mother asks, “Can you take care of them?”
“Will you be able to? I can no longer do it, but concern and worry keeps me hanging on….My aging husband, your father, my disabled son, your brother.
“I promise”, says the daughter. Her mother slips away...The daughter heart-broken sits weeping, her mother gone, leaving her a lifetime of memories, sweetened by her mother’s love and devotion to her family.

Eight years later……..caretaking has taken its toll..daughter exhausted. Doctor appointments, medical emergencies, difficult decisions, time, worry, concern…
“How can I do this?” she asks.
Please give me strength,
Please give me hope,
Please give me purpose.
Her thoughts reflect. upon the day her mother passed,
“Yes, I promise”..
The value of that promise runs deep within her soul.
Her hope- regained.
Her strength-renewed
Her purpose-redefined
Yes mother, you kept your promises and I will keep mine.

Valentine and Birthday Getaway 2010

Paul and I were able to get away for a Valentine celebration in Eureka Springs, Ark. Its about an hour from Carthage and a beautiful drive. We were so looking forward to having some time together. The roads are hilly and narrow and we ended up on a pretty steep road right before the hotel. We decided to back up and whoops ended up in a ditch.....good thing for AAA they were there in no time and got us out!

We stayed at the Crescent Hotel and Spa. It was built in 1886 and is just gorgeous. They have renovated it over the years but have managed to keep its original beauty and majesty. Eureka Springs reminds us of Lake Tahoe, with all the wonderful views. (They even have a lake nearby.) Our room was comfy and looking out the window we felt so very far away and in a different world. We explored, shopped, ate wonderful food and relaxed.

View from our table at breakfast.

The hotel sits up at the top of the hill.
They have a restaurant called the Crystal Dining room, its very elegant and the atmosphere is fine dining. The tables are far apart so it feels so private. We were served a 5 course meal that was well....incredible. Beautifully presented as well.

One of the many surprises I enjoyed! Like many of the other states we have had many snow storms. This is still exciting to me especially when it snowed on Christmas Eve and we had a white Christmas! Yeah! Growing up on the west coast I always wanted to live where the seasons change. Soo... here I am in the Midwest and loving that part of it. Several hawks have come into the backyard, we think they are eyeing the bird feeder but have not ventured down to it yet.
Our Christmas season was a little different, Kevin had to work, Derrick and Ashley were not able to be with us. Christmas with family changes over the years and we do the best we can! We had our traditional Christmas Eve dinner and program and the Nugents were able to join us for that. We had some sickness and mishaps but in all we love that time of year!

Wedding Trip to California

We had such a wonderful time in California! We flew out New Year's Eve with Brad and Kevin. (Vanessa flew several days later.) We had no delays no problems, so glad for that! Sheila picked us up at the airport and we stayed at their place for a while. It took a while to get on California time, we were so tired the first few days! It was fun spending time with the Johnson's. We all went out to BJ's the first night. Great food and what a cute waiter we had....Mark works there and he just kept bringing out the food!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJzqVM7VpI/AAAAAAAAASQ/kF7JtGjQGtw/s320/Jan+2009+trip+to+California+003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296923282824189586" />

Sheila and I were able to spend some "sister time".... so overdue! Everything was still decorated for Christmas....
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ01uNL0uI/AAAAAAAAASY/8S57Kk3LhDM/s320/Jan+2009+trip+to+California+006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296924578026345186" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ3YCMnV9I/AAAAAAAAASo/zBshFfMpDQ0/s320/Jan+2009+trip+to+California+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296927366531471314" />

We enjoyed our time together!

We headed up to Folsom to spend some time with our friends the Kroffs. They live in our old neighborhood so it was a little melancholy to be back there. The trees had grown so big!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ58fWnlxI/AAAAAAAAASw/y4MpRHE0w-g/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+088.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296930191856604946" />
It was so enjoyable to spend time with Derrick and Ashley. It was the first time our whole family had been in the car together for a long time.

They have a beautiful home in Pollock Pines and we loved the setting, right in a forest. We had fun eating pie, visiting and playing with the Wii.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ8RdStEWI/AAAAAAAAATA/ZlzfYyxCMWc/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+108.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296932751103824226" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ8mGx2aQI/AAAAAAAAATI/dYSkGusUGZQ/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+105.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296933105837697282" />

Their wedding took place at the Sacramento Temple....
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ-Zn00bjI/AAAAAAAAATQ/s-RYKpyGWDQ/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296935090393476658" />

It was a wonderful experience and we have never seen Derrick happier.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 252px; height: 320px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYJ_Ly-fGaI/AAAAAAAAATY/BZigd94sWG4/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+019.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296935952380271010" />
Our new family...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYKEqMBwyqI/AAAAAAAAATo/PsgQbYqVrSA/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+028.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296941972059114146" />

After all the wedding pictures were taken we headed over for lunch at Macaroni grill. It was delicious!!!!
We headed back to the Kroffs to get ready for the reception at the Lake Natoma Inn. We arrived there early to help set things up and as we walked in the room we all gasped! It all looked so beautiful. Red and while roses. Sashes tied on the chairs. It was incredible. Elegant but simple. The Steeds sure know how to celebrate! They had a lot of different types of food to snack on and lots of drinks.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYKCDBeJMFI/AAAAAAAAATg/Zf1oWCpUM2I/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+059.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296939100187209810" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYKGuDjvk1I/AAAAAAAAATw/EsV9OCczmSo/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+006.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296944237528453970" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYKHQ4s2bZI/AAAAAAAAAUA/fN_6P6loCsc/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+007.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5296944835909283218" />

We were so glad to have our family with us, Vanessa, Brad, Kevin, The Johnsons, Pat flew in from Utah and Jaana and Krista surprised us! Crystal Willis flew in from Long Beach and it was so fun to see her!! (she was our unofficial photographer) Can't wait to see all the picures she took.It was just so good to be together for such a memorable occasion.
There are so many memories in Folsom as that is where we spent most of our time as we raised our family. We reunited with old friends that we have shared so much of our lives with. (It was so great to see the Fengels whom we have not seen in so long!!!We were so glad they came.)
I will be reflecting on this wonderous occasion and all the special times we had as we prepared for this event. We so appreciate the hospitality of the Johnsons and the Kroffs for allowing our family to stay with them. We are so grateful to the Steeds and all the time and planning that went into this to make it so memorable!!!

After the wedding we had some downtime with the Kroffs. We hiked down yes ...down to the Folsom Lake. I have never seen the lake so empty. 3/4 of the lake is gone!!!
What is interesting is that it exposes Mormon Island where pioneer's were settled before the lake was formed. We found all kinds of artifacts from that time and even discovered an olive orchard!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYSNcqpjXwI/AAAAAAAAAUI/VyK5YD1qZME/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+049.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297514585318973186" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/SYSNusTcuII/AAAAAAAAAUQ/f04B8g2u-7s/s320/Wedding+trip+to+California+040.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5297514895000778882" />

Don't do it Vanessa! We are grateful for this time of year, hectic as it may be, to reflect on the joy and hope we have in knowing that the Savior will come again and we will truly have peace on earth. His birth is very significant and a wondrous event.
We are looking forward to our oldest son Derrick’s wedding next month and will be flying out New Year’s Eve. Many of you have received announcements and apologize to those who haven’t. (We probably don’t have your address)
Derrick, Vanessa and Brad are all working part-time and in college full time. Kevin is working and living away from home. Paul’s business continues to grow and Diana works as the “Senior Resource Manager” out of her home. (smile) We enjoy having some family live close by with Shawn’s family and Mika’s family and Rick. We get together monthly for family dinners and catch up.
Who knows what 2009 will bring? Our theme for this next year is-
“Live simply, care deeply, love generously, speak kindly and leave the rest to God.”

Happy Birthday Mom!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 134px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/STcNxpSPvEI/AAAAAAAAARA/on-9AawWCkQ/s200/mom+1925.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275700635034958914" />

INA PEARL SORENSON NUGENT
DEC 3,1915-JAN 26,2002

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/STcI5UKNvzI/AAAAAAAAAQ4/thqXZrNCm7E/s200/2008+032.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275695269244944178" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/STcIso6UU3I/AAAAAAAAAQw/_q6Ot4MtRGU/s200/2008+015.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275695051477111666" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_GfeR9vfXp1I/STcIRpJDQbI/AAAAAAAAAQo/0uYce5MmyR0/s200/temple+trip+Sheila,+Diana+Mom.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5275694587682439602" />

Who can say for certain...maybe your still here?
I feel you all around me your memory so clear.
Deep in the stillness I can hear you speak
Your still an inspiration...can it be?

That you are mine forever and you are watching over me from up above?
Fly me up to where you are...beyond a distant star.
My wish upon tonight to see you smile if only for a while to know your there
A breath away's not far to where you are.

I can't be sleeping here inside my dream and isn't faith believing all power can't be seen
As my heart holds you just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me every day
Love will live on and never leave
I know your there a breath aways not far to where you are.

My mother would have been 93 today. It was down in Fayetteville, Arkansas. We made a day of it and headed down there in the morning. It was fun to visit and get to know these new friends of mine. Fayetteville has a farmers market on the square so we went there first. It was way different than ours here in Carthage. They had musicians and lots of vendors with all kinds of different items for sale. From produce to crafts it was pretty amazing. They even had a magician performing. We were getting hungry so we asked the locals for a recommendation. They pointed behind us which we thought was a office building of some kind. Turns out it was a post office that was turned into a restaurant. We decided to eat outside since it was so beautiful..and the lunch was yummy.

We wanted to get to the "Yoga Center" early so we could get a good spot and also change our clothes. As you walk in, there is wood and decorated glass doors leading into the main room. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. We changed and got ready on our mats. There was about 30 people so we were sitting pretty close to each other. (I was not sure what to expect, this is all new to me.)

This was a workshop to learn about a different kind of Yoga called, Kundalini. We had 2 instructors who taught us for 3 hours.

We did many variations of positions of movement all to awaken our chakras which they believe is the core of our energy.

What I liked about it was the rhythm and the flow. We did yoga movements for 3 to 7 minutes at a time.

We got a little break.... so we enjoyed the fall day amidst the peaceful setting. (Not sure what happened to my hair!)

Of course we ended the session with the "Savasana" pose which is where you lay flat and close your eyes and just relax.This is a time when you focus on how your body has benefited from this workout. You allow your thoughts to come and go. They had these little bean bags that smelled like lavender which you put over your eyes. Yoga is all about "being in the present". I like that. Too often I am just looking at the next thing I am to do and not really paying attention to each moment. You can miss a lot living like that so that is something I am working on. At the very end, we arise from our "Savasana" and we sit up in a comfy position in unison we Oman....3 times. Then we all say "Namaste" which means "I honor the place in you which is divine. I honor the place in you which is of love, of peace, of light, and of truth. May the divine in me bless the divine in you." This is how all yoga sessions end.

Here are our instructors-Jimmye Whitfield and Mona Jones. They have traveled all over the world teaching Yoga.

This particular Yoga Center we were at was featured in a recent magazine.We chatted a little with everyone, visited the gift shop and then got ready to leave. We all decided on Thai for dinner before heading home. It was delicious!
I enjoyed spending the day with Dana and Helen. They are thoughtful and fun women. We talked nonstop about everything on the way home and I feel I got to know them a lot better than just seeing them in class every week at the Y.

Sometimes you just need a "girls day out"!!!!

Marian Days August 2008

Every year in August, 60,000 Vietnamese Catholics gather in Carthage to commemorate Marian Days. Its a time for them to reflect on their freedom and religion as they came here to America for opportunity and escape from war. Some stay in motels but most of them camp side by side. They are everywhere! There are mostly tents and they desperately try to stay cool with their fans and spray bottles. In August we have most of our hot humid weather and a few rainstorms.

They have huge outdoor masses and presentations from their religious leaders. Its a spiritual celebration of their love of God and culture. Its also a family reunion for some. These are kind and devoted people from all over the country. We usually venture down to this event on our date night and have dinner. Its interesting to try the food they prepare for all those who come to visit. They usually have a parade at some point where they are in their original dress and its just beautiful!

Its definitely a cultural experience for us here in the Midwest. They are very industrious people and when Monday comes and everyone leaves, you can hardly tell they were ever here. Our community increases in population about 8 times but the police handle everything so well that there are very few problems. Its pretty incredible when you think about it. We enjoy it and its a tradition for us now!

Welcome Home, Vanessa!

Our world traveler, Vanessa made it back from Europe safe and sound! He was pleasantly surprised, (even if we had told him he would have forgotten and still been pleasantly surprised, that is the great thing about getting older ) We had a great turnout even though it was a stormy night, (we lost power for a short time!) Family and friends gathered to help celebrate this occasion. He received lots of cards and goodies. He needed help blowing out those pesky, darn candles that kept relighting. Luke was happy to assist with that. G'pa had lots of stories to tell to whoever would listen, lots of memories swirling around in that head. We had yummy food and lemonade.

Grandpa was at the " Y"(he is the oldest member) last week lifting weights, when he lifted his arms up, his shorts fell down around his legs! Good thing he had on his boxer shorts that day. Whew! Now he wears a belt. His favorite part of the "Y" experience is when he gets into the therapy pool. He loves to soak his bones. We are happy about that because it means he is almost bathing!

He is doing pretty well except for a pain in his hip, he has gone to the Dr and they are running tests. It was gorgeous. We had an early dinner and then explored the grounds. They had waterfalls, ponds filled with fish and turtles, a marina, hiking trails, shops, hotels, cabins and restaurants. Some of the waterfalls spill onto the actual road you drive on....We hiked around the trails and bridges. Later to cool off, we went into a classy restaurant overlooking the cove. It use to be a summer home of a wealthy railroad family, the Wormans. We just ordered the chocolate fondue and pink lemonade. So refreshing....They had live entertainment, a cross between Rod Stewart and Tom Jones??.....We spent all evening there at the resort. Paul and I decided it would be a great place to have a family reunion!

Table Rock Lake hits its highest level.

We have gone to Branson many times since we moved here, but this time we stayed in a little cove closer to Hollister. We were not far from the main attractions, but we really enjoyed exploring this part of the lake for a change. We stayed at the Red Bud Cove bed and breakfast. The building we stayed in with all the different suites use to be a barn! They did a fantastic job remodeling it. We had the upper room with a deck overlooking the lake. It was called "The Kentucky Room". It was spacious and comfortable. We had a delicious breakfast served very elegantly to us every morning from the main house. It was SO hot that week so we were glad to be close to the lake. The lake was unusually high this summer because of all the rain so there were trees to shade us as we floated around the cove. It was so relaxing and romantic. They had several swing chairs and benches right on the shore. It was 3 days of (as Kevin would say) chillaxing!

Our last night there we took in a show called "Six". They don't use any soundtrack, band or instruments. All the harmonies and sounds of instruments are made with their mouths!They had pure harmonies, amazing vocal ranges, we felt like we were hearing a full band! Really!! It was so awesome. We were right in the front row and they come right up to us and start singing and dancing. They were so funny, we laughed so hard! They did all kinds of music and they would change off as they all could sing as well. It always seems like you are hearing six voices though the whole time, its crazy. In their family there are 10 sons, he said "My mom kept trying for a girl". They did a touching slide show in her honor as they lost her to cancer a few years ago. Before the show we had some Thai food (our favorite) down on Branson Landing (yum!) (Its an outside mall.) We walked around there and Paul ran into a bear. Yikes! He tamed him though and showed him whose boss! There are many interesting sites, they have a lot of fountains. One of them goes right to the beat of the music that is playing throughout the mall area. Its so hard to get away but ahhh so worth it!(Thanks to Brad, our son for taking care of everything at home so we could get away! Its a lot of work.....He did great!)

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v17.nonxt5.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D361c5d7054426206%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331586272%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D5A7CF6354E212291327229D94BA31639281168FF.CD269490B359F07EACEB2FB46D5C6A98A5CE982%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D361c5d7054426206%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D-NJoHPaYTUD5ckG1pKwA7-5AUmk&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />We have never seen the shoreline this high!

Ring and a Date!

Derrick and Ashley have chosen Friday January 9, 2009 to be their wedding day. He took her to a place overlooking the ocean and after serenading her, fireworks began to go off, talk about timing, way to gooo.... We are so excited for them! Derrick flew her out here last December and we enjoyed getting to know this talented, warm and special young lady. Congratulations!

Slice of the Midwest.....delicious

Chapel at "Precious Moments"
Site of the Temple Lot in Independence, Mo

We have lived here in the Midwest for about 7 years this month. Its so different from fast-paced California and we are settling into it. People are so friendly and everyone waves at you as you pass them. This is Walmart country and they even have a "Walmart Visitor Center" in Benton ville, where Sam Walton started his first store. (yes really)

The town we live in is a large area, but only about 13,000 people live here. "Precious Moments" is here and its 6,000 acres of grass and beautiful landscape. There is a lake where you can fish and enjoy the swans and ducks. Close by is a cute chapel where you can tour free and see all the paintings and stained glass windows that Sam Butcher made. Of course they have shops where you can buy their dolls and figurines.

The Walmart in town is a super center. You can get a gallon of milk, lawnmower and some vitamins all in the same stop. All of the small towns around here have "the square" which is usually where the court house is and other city buildings. The local hardware store is on the square and that is where we bought all of our furniture. (that right!)Its a 3 story building and the basement is filled with all variety of furnishings. You can get a hammer, a light bulb and some china there. You can also register if you are a bride to be and rent a tux. They have beautiful grandfather clocks and "Fenton" crystal. They also have catalogs, they order furniture from all over the world.

The farmer's market comes to the square every week and the farmers are Mennonites, they wear collar-bound shirts with suspenders, the women wear bonnets and long dresses. They are more trendy than the Amish, as they have cell phones and credit cards. Its wonderful to get the fresh produce and honey they sell.

The YMCA offers many interesting and fun classes. They have racquetball, weight room, swimming pool and gym. Our family goes there daily, even Grandpa Bill, he is their oldest member.

We have been able to visit a lot of the state since we have been here and have enjoyed exploring the different areas.
